8 Things To Love About Your Stopgap Job

It might feel like you've been in your stopgap job forever, or will be, but try to look on the brightside. We're here with 9 positive points that you can take away from your part-time, post-uni employment!

1. Income

Money is money, afterall.

2. You're busy

Part time work keeps you busy, makes you feel productive and gives you a reason to get up in the morning. It’s better than doing nothing, aka watching Netflix for 12 consecutive hours.

3. You'll make friends

You’ll meet new people, possibly make new friends, but certainly you’ll be introduced to people you may otherwise never have met – and that’s always a bonus!

4. You'll learn

You’ll learn a lot, probably without even realising. You’ll come to understand how a business is run, why certain things happen and how you can influence and affect them.

5. You'll increase your chances of employment

It makes you more employable and by some margin! Part time work shows that you are proactive, like being busy, care about work, and WANT to be employed. A big tick for employers!

6. It bridges a gap

It serves as an excellent bridge between university and working life. You’ll get a taste for what it’s like to be in a routine, having responsibilities and getting paid! When it comes to your first job – you’ll be well prepared!

7. It’s not forever!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, whether you can see it or not.

8. You'll aquire new skills

And finally, you WILL learn new skills that will prove to be both essential and very attractive to prospective employers, some of which are listed here

Remember, your stopgap should be a stepping stone to your dream graduate job so whilst you should enjoy it while it lasts, don't let it distract you from what you really want to do!
