Management Programme, Nationwide

About the role

What you will be doing

The aim of the programme is to produce high quality leaders, who will be the operational managers of the future. It is a 2-year programme, starting every September, which rotates both nationally and internationally.

You can expect at least three placements across the UK between our different divisions (Rail Infrastructure, Rail Services or Rail Urban), where you will be led by one of our Senior Managers and play a vital role in delivering some of our high-profile projects.

Every rotation will provide you with invaluable management and business experience, and we provide support and mentoring throughout the programme and beyond to help you achieve success.

In the second year of the programme, there is also a limited number of opportunities for high performers to work in Malaysia and Vietnam.

We currently have opportunities available for graduates to join the following offices: Birmingham, Brentwood, Bristol, Cardiff, Dartford, London, Manchester, Rugby, Tonbridge and York.

  • You will start with an induction period of one to two weeks in our Head Office in London, before being sent to your first location
  • You will complete three different rotations on various projects around the UK and internationally
  • You will be involved in both technical aspects and the day-to-day operations of a major company
  • You will experience a variety of activities, from technical work to client engagement, combined with a large amount of on-site work
  • You will take responsibility and make informed decisions in a fast-paced operational environment, whilst working with multicultural teams at all levels across the business
  • You will be fully supported to become a highly respected leader and a future operational manager.

About Us

Our Culture - What we do

We provide total rail solutions for some of Europe's most high-profile projects, including the delivery of major maintenance frameworks for Network Rail and the development of Morocco's first high-speed train line.

Our brand is well established, and we are proud of our reputation within the rail industry.

We are a multicultural and diverse organisation, committed to delivering on our promises to our employees, and lead with our key values: Safety; Profitability; Quality and Respect.

At Colas Rail, we look outwards to our customers and make sure to see things from their point of view. We respect their opinions, respond to their suggestions and are proactive in anticipating their needs.

In this way we are creative and innovative in our approach, always aiming to exceed the expectations of those with whom we work.

We have a long-running tradition of developing talent and giving graduates the opportunity to take their career in their own hands. Many of the talented people who have joined our schemes have been supported and trusted to the lead on major projects and tenders for the company.

Our strength in this area has been formally recognised by the 2015 Graduate Scheme award, and the 2016 Outstanding Teamwork Award, at the UK Rail Industry Awards.

Colas Rail understands the importance of developing their graduates. They do this through empowering them to take on additional responsibilities.

The opportunities here are never-ending. We are working on some incredibly exciting projects, including our £400 million project to regenerate Waterloo – the busiest station in Europe – over the next three years. We are also delivering major schemes overseas in North Africa and Asia, which means there may be the potential to travel.

It's not all work: you can expect the opportunity to join a host of organised events, such as the annual charity bike ride, and our in-house football tournament which is very popular and brings teams from across the globe together to compete.
