Early Diversity Insight Programme

  • • Location: London
  • • Duration: One week
  • • Reasonable expenses will be paid

What you will be doing

This award winning internship is available to first-year undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. The 5-day placement in a government department gives you valuable insight and understanding of what it's like to be on the Fast Stream.

Guided by a Fast Stream buddy, you’ll also enjoy a series of networking and social events, an assessment survival tips workshop, and a closing reception where you’ll hear from high-profile speakers such as Civil Service diversity champions and sports stars.

What you will have

If you're interested in a career in the Civil Service, it's an ideal way to learn in a short space of time if we're right for you. Of those who completed the internship in 2018 and were surveyed, 100% recommended it. It’s also a great foundation for applying to the Summer Diversity Internship Programme (SDIP).

For this programme applications are invited from people who are from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background, people with a disability and those from a lower socio economic background.

Our Culture - What we do

Assisting with the development and execution of Government policies, some of the important work we do includes: shaping healthcare; collecting the money that pays for public services; ensuring we have secure, clean and affordable energy; leading global work to end poverty and providing aid during humanitarian emergencies.

There’s no such thing as a typical Civil Servant. We work in just about every town and city in Britain, and come from every background you can think of. With us, the things that make you unique will be respected and celebrated.

What is it like to work in the Civil Service?

We do it all, which means we offer a wide range of career paths and experiences. No matter what your interests are, we’ll have a scheme to suit you.

We are driven to transform the brightest graduates into effective and inspiring leaders at the heart of the political process.

Working in the Civil Service is a unique development opportunity.

We believe in the importance of having a good work-life balance.

Of course there will be times when you are busy, but we will always give you the freedom to work flexibly and fit work in around your life. There will be plenty of social trips to enjoy too.

You can expect incredible support and training, as well as a career offering plenty of variety and opportunities. Plus, you'll join a strong cohort of other grads, all learning and developing at the same time as you. This means a guaranteed support network – professional and social - to help you settle in quickly.

My day-to-day job is trying to make the government as efficient as possible at what it does.
