What you will be doing

Our Business Management programme is designed to help graduates develop their skills and interests within a commercial organisation. By covering a wide range of departments, you will be able to lay the foundations for a successful career without being forced to narrow your choices.

See below for more information about each area available on the programme:

  • Procurement Contribute directly to our success in growing a more profitable business – whether through creating sourcing strategies, building expertise in a particular industry sector, or negotiating and driving the return we get from suppliers.
  • Business Analysis and Business Improvement Play a critical role in driving transformation and best practice within the company. You will draw on tools such as in-depth analysis, process design and change management methodologies, and bring a fresh perspective to existing problems to help identify and develop the solutions.
  • Project Management Take our best practice and business methodologies and drive the exceptional delivery of a wide range of key initiatives. You will also build excellent relationships with internal stakeholders in the process.
  • Supply Chain Examine the complex supply chain that serves our large organisation, and ensure it works efficiently and effectively. This is a really broad role and it could involve looking at how engineers and business customers receive the tools and equipment they need to provide our customers with a wide range of BT products – from broadband to TV.
  • Contract Management This role involves leading, managing and supporting BT's major contracts with our customers. These contracts range from £1 million to many £100 million per annum of revenues: they’re important for profit contribution, and business growth, so that we can continue to exceed our clients’ expectations.
  • Operational Management This role will see you managing and coordinating teams of up to 22 field engineers, or you could find yourself managing a team in one of our operations centres, looking after the networks of some of our key customers.
  • Service Management You will be overseeing and seeking to improve customers’ experience of our products. You’ll be looking at things like our service strategy, design, delivery and “in life” management to ensure we follow Customer First principles. In this way, you'll be working to provide our customers with an exceptional experience.
  • Product and Portfolio Management Create and deliver leading-edge products and solutions that anticipate the needs of BT's customers, driving sustainable growth for the business. You'll be involved in shaping the strategic and commercial product activity that directly impacts on our customers including propositions, portfolio management and strategy, as well as product design and delivery.
  • Facilities and Property Management Join a dedicated team who ensure that our property portfolio is efficient and effective to meet the needs of the business. You’ll be responsible for building works across the BT estate, from office refurbishments to constructing new data centres and office buildings, ensuring these are managed on time and within budget, working with key internal stakeholders and directing the property supply chain - all whilst working towards qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor.

Your First Year On The BT Business Management Programme

Onwards to our company and culture…

We are BT

As the fourth most valuable brand in the UK, we’re here to harness the power of communications to make a better world.

Our Culture

Our Culture - What we do

Life today is built around connectivity. Through an ever-expanding range of products and services, we provide broadband, mobile and TV to customers in 180 countries.

Through us, millions of people connect with friends and family, share huge amounts of information and enjoy a world of entertainment at their fingertips.

In the UK, the entire telecoms industry operates across our networks, whilst our technology powers international establishments such as the New York Stock Exchange.

Founded in 1846, we are the longest established communication company in the world. Back then, the goal was to make communication possible within minutes and hours, instead of days and weeks.

We’ve come a long way since. Today, we work in global offices, stretching from Sao Paolo to Sydney. We’re now the fourth most valuable brand in the UK and 58th in the world, and we have exciting plans to keep growing.

Our BT Academy provides structured, tailored training to our graduates that is based on the world’s best thinking.

This enables our team to continue their own professional development by studying towards accredited qualifications alongside their training.

With a focus on personal development as well as professional training, every employee has an allowance of holiday per year to spend on volunteering activities for a cause of their choice.

At BT we have one of the largest corporate property estates in the UK, including offices, data centres, telephone exchanges, distribution warehouses as well as shops. We also have our own TV studio, a TV platform and as of 2016 have joined with EE, which is the UK’s largest mobile phone company.

With such a large company, the social network here is truly exceptional. Take part in the "Gradiator" challenge across the Peak District, join our annual ski trip or take part in regular events such as the monthly pub quiz. Our weekly graduate newsletter will keep you posted with all activities open to you, so you're never left out of the loop.

Our Future - Where we're going

Why Graduates Are Key to Our Future

Patrick Bradley, HR Director for the Consumer Division

We are a company with a huge history and heritage. We were founded in 1846 and over the years have remained a leader and an innovator in the telecommunications and technology sector.

We have three values: being personal, simple and brilliant. This gives our team an idea of how we want them to behave at work and reflects everything we do, whether working internally or directly with our customers.

The future of BT is bright – we aim to be at the forefront of what people want from us for many years to come. From the development of 5G to rolling out fibre optic, all of the new technologies we can deploy are really exciting and will match the increase in demands that people have for our services.

Graduates are a hugely important way of resourcing the organisation, providing fresh new ideas and creating an essential pipeline of leaders for the future. Plenty of people who started on the grad scheme are now occupying senior roles within BT - you could be next.
