Working as an Analyst at Alfa

What you will be doing

As a new joiner, you will receive close supervision and training that will give you a firm basis for your future. During the initial training programme, which lasts around 10 weeks, you will get to grips with developing and configuring Alfa Systems, while building up knowledge of the product, the industry and our ways of working at Alfa.

After week one where you will learn all about our company, culture and how we operate as a business, you will then start getting to grips with the fundamentals of coding, how our product (Alfa Systems) works and how our clients use it. After this, you will move to our technical bootcamp phase of induction for around 6 weeks, which will get you up to speed with the coding skills you will need to be a great Software Engineer or Analyst.

During the graduate programme you will rotate across roles in Implementation and Engineering. As you progress you will develop particular abilities and interests that will help you choose your future career path and you will choose learning and development activities to support that.

  • You will modify business processes to ensure our clients are working as effectively as possible.
  • You will design and develop software required by our clients.
  • You will test that all software and solutions work.
  • You will help to transfer data from our clients' old systems to our new solution, ALFA.
  • You will provide support to clients throughout the go-live process and into the future.
You will be supported as you progress and develop particular abilities and interests.

What you will have

A good Alfa recruit has the ability to see an end goal, break down the steps to get there, and put in the effort to achieve it. Therefore, any hard-working and ambitious graduate can be successful as long as they have a logical mind, enjoy working as part of a team, have pride in their work, and see their career immersed in the worlds of both technology and finance. With our ever-increasing geographic reach, knowledge of foreign languages is an added bonus, and we’ll even support you if you want to pursue extra studies.

  • You are a high achiever, with As and Bs at A level (or equivalent) and a 2:1 or above from university.
  • You are logically minded.
  • You are proud of your work and what you acheive.
  • You are a real team player.
  • You are looking for a future immersed in Technology and Finance.

There's so much more to life at Alfa than the job description.

About Us

We are at heart a Software and Consultancy business.

We write Alfa systems, which is software dedicated to the Finance industry, but on top of this we work closely with our clients to implement this and effect business change.

We put a lot of time and effort into ensuring we have a really good culture. We need our people to work hard but that doesn’t necessarily mean long hours. We like to make things better together therefore we hire people who are inclusive, collaborative and supportive to those around them.

There are various communities you can get involved with from day one including the Inclusion & Diversity, LGBTQ+, Alfa for Racial Equity and Women's groups. There is also plenty of opportunity to get involved with volunteering, through our CSR and Green teams.

Having a great  time at work is incredibly  important to us.

We organise regular social talks, events and well-being activities and throughout the year, we hold Innovation Afternoons and an annual Hackathon as your chance to collaborate with others and let your great ideas grow. You will also get to spend time with the whole organisation every couple of months at our company meetings which are a mix of business updates, guest speakers and fun activities. If you are interested in activities outside of work there are groups to join such as running, tennis and board games. Furthermore we usually have a trip overseas (travel permitting) for our Annual Conference which is always something to look forward to!

Despite the challenges brought on by the global pandemic in 2020 we have been delighted to maintain our inclusive culture and events virtually.

Our relatively small size lends itself to an atmosphere that is both inclusive and collaborative, and we enjoy the luxury of knowing all of our colleagues.

We offer amazing career progression opportunities.

It’s a telling sign when you look at how many of our senior management joined as graduates.

There is so much opportunity here that it is no wonder people remain with us to help us grow and develop.
