Our Culture - What we do
The By Design Group comprises of three sister companies: Law by Design (a boutique Employment Law firm); HR Solutions by Design (an HR consultancy) and Investigations by Design (offering complex external case investigation services). We work within separate fields but enjoy a symbiotic relationship, where we share knowledge and expertise, ensuring clients receive unique and high quality services, which exceed expectations.
We enjoy the challenge of creating a new type of business, where we have the freedom and flexibility to deliver what the client wants and needs. We believe in doing things differently and we love what we do, taking pride in the impact we make and we are passionate about supporting organisations.
Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of our culture is the genuine opportunity to be masters of our own destiny; ideas are encouraged and grads have all the support they need to reach their potential and fulfil their aspirations.
It's crucial to all of us that we enjoy coming to work - after all, we spend most of our week here! Our open-plan office ensures a relaxed and close-knit environment, where all of our employees are welcomed and every individual is treated equally. Communication is a vital and key influence in our success, and we celebrate all of our triumphs together, whether work-related or personal.
We know starting a new job is daunting, particularly when it's your first role. That’s why every effort is made to ensure our on-boarding process is engaging from the moment you are offered a position to your first day. We are firm believers that you only get one chance to make a first impression and we want your first impression of us to be a positive one, where our values shine through.
Whether it's through annual salary reviews, a monthly bonus scheme or director 'treat nights out', we make sure our employees know their worth and their loyalty is rewarded. Other office traditions include: dress down every Friday; nights out; sporting events for charity and the 'Wellbeing 1.5', where employees are encouraged to take an hour and a half during the working week to take part in a health and wellbeing related activity.
We often have external speakers coming in to provide training on a specific topic or if there are courses... you want to go on, we're more than happy to consider those.
It was my first office experience... but everyone has been really welcoming and I've settled in quickly.
Our Future - Where we're going
Sue Morrison, Managing Director
In April 2013, Sue Morrison founded Law by Design alongside a team of expert Employment Lawyers. The team had all worked in large, international law firms and become disillusioned by the corporate red tape, lack of flexibility and relentless drive for profit. They wanted to do things differently. Law by Design was later joined by Nick Grimshaw (not the Radio 1 DJ!) an award-winning HR Director with an NHS background. This added an HR and Investigations service, filled a niche in the market and meant the By Design Group was born.
We recognise that all organisations are unique and our 'by design' ethos ensures we deliver a quality, sustainable and values driven service. Our values are:

In the last four years, we've grown from strength to strength. We've developed into a family of like-minded professionals, who have a genuine desire to help the business succeed and it is for this reason that we're now in a position to start the next phase of growth. We want to bring in graduates who are excited about the prospect of being a part of this future, who are willing to learn and grow with the business and who want to be a part of something where they are valued as an individual and have the chance to make a real impact.
